Chris Sutton mocks Rangers boss Steven Gerrard over Celtic Park 'lion's den' comments

Chris Sutton has poked fun at Steven Gerrard over his very literal response to a question about Celtic Park being a "lion's den".

The Rangers boss insisted fans don't win football matches and that his players will be well prepared for a hostile atmosphere during Sunday's derby.

But his response to the question, where he spelled out exactly the difference between a lion's den and a football stadium, prompted some light-hearted digs on social media.

The Record Sport columnist and former Hoops favourite has chimed in on BT Sport's Saturday Sav show after he was asked the very same question by Robbie Savage during a quick-fire quiz.

Savage asked: "Is Celtic Park a lion's den?"

And an animated Sutton responded: "No, in fact, a lion's den Robbie is when you climb over a cage and there's a four-legged, cat-like animal, and it chases after.

Why Rangers boss Steven Gerrard can't 'change the rules' for crocked international stars

"Over the moon doesn't mean over the moon Robbie, you can't actually climb over the moon!"

At his Friday press conference, Gerrard had originally said: "I've never seen fans win a football match, it will be loud but it won't be a lion's den.

A lion's den is when four lions jump over a cage and you fear for your life.

"You have to thrive in this atmosphere. If any of my players don't fancy it they are at the wrong club.

This time we won't have the power of Ibrox behind us which was a big help, but the players have to have that mentality to go and get the job done.

"If you go in with the wrong mentality you won't win these games. You have to take responsibility individually and collectively.

"We understand the gap in the league, for us, it is can we affect that? Celtic are clear favourites and this is probably our last opportunity to make it more interesting than it is at the moment."
