Chris Sutton left in disbelief as Celtic legend rows with Michael Stewart over Leigh Griffiths solution argument

Celtic hero Chris Sutton and Michael Stewart had an on-air barney as they clashed over a difference of opinion when asked about Celtic's striking options.

With Odsonne Edouard and Kyogo Furuhashi both on the scoresheet in the 3-2 win over Hearts, the home side looked impressive every time the entered the Jambos third of the park.

But question marks still remain over whether the former will still be at the club by the time the summer transfer window shuts.

Both pundits agree reinforcements are sorely required if he does exit stage left but Sutton was aghast at the suggestion fringe man Leigh Griffiths could be part of the solution.

Speaking on Premier Sports, Sutton began: "They talk about him (Thomas Henry) coming in, a big physical target type, maybe to replace Edouard if he goes."

Stewart (middle) and Sutton (right) sparred over Leigh Griffiths' Celtic future (Premier Sports)

Stewart replied: "If Edouard is to leave then you need a replacement – but there are options. We have seen Kyogo through the middle, Griffiths is still here and he is someone I think you can get games out of."

But Sutton couldn't believe the final suggestion: "You can’t rely on Griffiths."

Stewart: "You are not relying on him, you’re talking about loading of games."

Sutton: "You’re talking about trying to win a title, trying to win trophies, you can’t chuck them in if they are not fit. There are question marks over Griffiths' fitness."

Stewart: "I disagree. I think there are games, particularly at home here, where you can get Leigh Griffiths in the side and he will score goals."

Sutton: " Celtic aren’t in a position to take anyone lightly and I think that was what Ange was trying to say more than anything."

Stewart: “This is what you would regard as a risk, I don't regard this as a risk, Leigh Griffiths is capable of having an impact in certain games."

Sutton: “He hasn’t been able to make an impact for the last couple of seasons!"

Stewart: “But again the last couple of seasons there were a number of people who weren’t able to make an impact and there are a number of reasons for that. No doubt he has his issues but in certain games at home you can allow to take the load off of others and give him some game time."
