Chris Sutton leaves Ally McCoist squirming as Celtic hero targets Rangers rival's weak link

Dynamic duo Ally McCoist and Chris Sutton gave viewers a fleeting reminder of their halcyon BT Sports banter days when the pair sparred on talkSPORT this morning.

They will no longer appear together on TV after Sky won the contract for SPFL action, splitting up the hugely popular team of pundits that also included Michael Stewart and Stephen Craigan.

Sutton was appearing on the breakfast show to promote his new book but couldn't resist firing a few barbs in the direction of his old pal.

Discussing the abuse players can take from fans at grounds, McCoist suggested that a blind eye is turned by authorities compared to what would be acceptable on the street.

He said: "I have nothing but respect for punters who go and pay their money every week and they are well entitled to.

"The only smile bigger than Jeremie Frimpong’s in his post-match interview was Forster’s when he realised it was Morelos who would be taking the penalty" (Craig Williamson/SNS Group)

"However it must be the only sport on the planet where you are allowed to shout abuse at those on the playing surface that would get you the jail outside of the stadium."

And while Sutton was in full agreement, he couldn't resist poking fun at the Rangers legend.

He said: "Absolutely right. We broadcast together in Scotland and it's quite hairy at times.

"Although I do laugh when you get it!'

And although the conversation returned to the new book as host Natalie Sawyer brought proceedings to a close Sutton couldn't resist one more playful dig to leave McCoist in stitches.

He said: "In fairness to Ally and I don't want to crawl and creep around him but he was a sensational player.

"He's now a sensational talker.

"One thing he wasn't though is a sensational actor."
