Chris Sutton launches astonishing attack on Arsenal star Mesut Ozil

Chris Sutton has let rip at Arsenal’s Mesut Ozil claiming he is a “bad smell” at the Emirates Stadium.

Ozil has not played a single minute of Premier League football since England's top-flight returned last week.

The German still has a year left to run on his Emirates deal, although the Gunners are supposedly keen to offload the midfielder this summer.

But selling Ozil is easier said than done, mainly because of his £350,000-a-week contract which he signed during Arsene Wenger's final season as manager.

Mikel Arteta: "It's unacceptable."

And Sutton has laid into the Arsenal hierarchy over their handling of the situation and he also believes Ozil has left Mikel Arteta down.

He told BBC Radio 5 Live: "What is the plan? Who is running the club? What does Edu do?

“Who is running the transfer policy? Why is Saka, who has been a shining light for them, why has he got a year left?

“Then you look at the Ozil situation and Ozil is like a bad smell at the club. He really is.

“He is a nightmare for Arteta. Having to go in and contend with that. A guy who is eating massive, massive wages at the club. Who isn’t interested.

“Arteta has given him some backing but he is making excuses for him. Ozil owes Arsenal far more than what is actually given.

“He is going to be hanging on for another season and that is not going to help. Your star man on a fortune and not trying a leg.

“I’ve been a fan of Ozil in the past, but everyone knew the rules of lockdown about keeping your fitness up and doing the hard yards.

“So to come back and not be able to get a place on a bench with that amount of talent, he has let Arteta down.”
