Chris Sutton gives Rangers title null and void verdict as Ally McCoist revels in Celtic hero's 'tears'

Chris Sutton has called Neil Doncaster's null and void comments 'nonsense' as he insists Rangers would deserve the title if the season is cut short.

The SPFL chief executive has refused to rule out every option, including null and void, if the Premiership campaign is curtailed due for the second year running.

Rangers are currently 21 points ahead of Celtic at the summit and well on course to win the league this term.

Celtic were awarded the title last season with eight games remaining and Sutton reckons his former side would have to accept the same fate for their rivals this time around.

Although that didn't stop him from poking fun at his BT Sport colleague Ally McCoist over the possible outcome.

The Rangers legend was asked if the title race is over to which he replied: "Never, not until it's mathematically impossible."

Sutton stepped in and said: "Not with null and void on the table now as well of course."

McCoist laughed off the suggestion and then proceeded to revel in Sutton's misery with his former side set to come up short in their Ten in a Row bid.

He said: "By the way, I could almost feel the desperation coming through my screen, the anxiety, the tears, I can feel it all, give that man a cuddle, whoever is next to Sutton give that man a cuddle."

But on a more serious note, Sutton conceded that null and void would spark outcry and that Rangers should be handed the league crown now.

He added: "Rangers have been excellent all season, they are so far ahead in the title race, they should hand Rangers the title now.

"On a serious note all of this null and nonsense from Neil Doncaster, there would be an outcry if that was the case and quite rightly so after what happened last season and Celtic have to accept it, and I think they do most of the Celtic fans."
