Former Norwich City striker Chris Sutton has insisted Leeds United 'deserve' to be promoted to the Premier League regardless of what happens over the coronavirus delay.
All professional football has been postponed until April 3 due to the coronavirus, with fears now over whether the season will resume at all.
With the Whites only potentially nine games from a return to the top flight, supporters are concerned that their efforts could be undermined by the delay.
Discussions in the media have suggested, from some quarters, that the season should be deemed void, whilst others have questioned whether the table should be frozen.
Sutton himself subscribes to the theory that the fairest way to end the season if it cannot be completed is to freeze the table and he insisted that Leeds, in particular, must be awarded a place back in the top tier of English football.
"I understand clubs will always look out for themselves," Sutton told the Monday Night Club.
"The issue is money, if there was no money everyone would accept that Liverpool are champions and Norwich City, Aston Villa and Bournemouth would be unhappy but would accept relegation.
"The fact of the matter is there is so much money involved which is why there will be these legal ramblings. Leeds deserve to come up. I know they have to get over the line but who knows where we are going to go with this."
Leeds stand seven points clear of third-place Fulham in the Championship standings with nine matches left to be played this season.
