Chris Sutton delivers scathing assessment of Celtic's Leigh Griffiths after striker's Euro snub

Celtic hero Chris Sutton has delivered a brutal assessment of current Hoops striker Leigh Griffiths following the announcement of Scotland's Euro 2020 squad earlier this week.

Steve Clarke unveiled his 26-man selection for next month's tournament but there was no place for Griffiths after a pretty underwhelming season for the hitman at Parkhead.

Many assumed Griffiths would be involved in Clarke's final pick given his goal-scoring ability, but Che Adams, Lyndon Dykes and Kevin Nisbet were all chosen ahead of the 30-year-old.

And Sutton insists it comes as no surprise to him following another disappointing season for Griffiths.

Speaking on the latest edition of BT Sport's Scottish Football Extra, Sutton said: "Leigh Griffiths? We keep hearing this argument: 'he's the best finisher'.

"Fact of the matter is you're going into a major tournament, what if something happens to Dykes? What if something happens to Adams?

"(If) they get injured, can Leigh Griffiths then go and play 90 minutes? That's not going to happen.

On the inclusion of Rangers' teenage right-back Nathan Patterson, Sutton added: "Patterson, I don't think its a brave call... I think it's the right call.

"We've seen enough of him. People are saying it's a gamble, not from what I've seen.

"It's far from a gamble."
