Chris Sutton delivers 'embarrassing' Celtic verdict but calls for Neil Lennon respect after protests

Former Celtic striker Chris Sutton admits it's impossible for Neil Lennon to remain as the club's manager after crashing out of the Betfred Cup.

But he has demanded that a section of fans show the Hoops great some respect after hundreds descended on Parkhead in the wake of the 2-0 loss to Ross County.

Lennon's position is looking increasingly shaky after a run of two wins in 10 games, with a gap of 11 points between his team and rivals Rangers in the Premiership.

The angry protests prompted a club statement to condemn missiles being thrown at players, with some members of the squad 'shaken' by the vitriol.

And Sutton said on BBC 606: "What is there to say?

"It's been an awful season, dreadful season.

"They've failed in most of the big games, today was probably the most embarrassing defeat, at home against Ross County who with respect aren't in great form themselves.

"It's the manager has to carry the can, I think we all have to accept that, you can't blame his backroom staff.

"Neil Lennon can't stay on after that, but I think he deserves a lot more respect than fans gathering outside the ground.

"Singing for his head? I mean, come on. Come on. That's not good enough."
