Chris Sutton deems Rangers not 'pure invincibles' but Ally McCoist is handed perfect comeback

Celtic legend Chris Sutton questioned why Rangers are being referred to as invincibles - only to be told he was the only one who'd used that word.

The Parkhead icon is one of the most engaging pundits in Scottish football and his banter with Rangers rival Ally McCoist is legendary.

The pair appear on BT Sport's Scottish Football Extra and the good-natured rivalry always makes for gripping viewing.

But it was McCoist who gained the upper hand on Friday as Sutton railed against the characterisation of Rangers as invincibles, only to be told by host Darrell Currie that he was the only guest to have used the term.

Here's the full hilarious exchange.

Currie: "A couple of things were apparent to me, that obviously they're going all-out to win the Scottish Cup, even if that means they lose their unbeaten league season. I don't know if you think that's the right balance?"

McCoist: "The Scottish Cup, for me, is more important than going through the season undefeated. Of course it is, 100 per cent. I don't think there's any doubt about that."

Sutton: "Either way it's not the pure invincibles because they haven't won the League Cup... so it doesn't matter."

McCoist: "But, you know..."

Sutton: "It's not to Brendan Rodgers level is it? It's not the invincibles, I don't know why we keep using the word 'invincibles'.

Currie: "You did! No-one else said it, you just said it. We said undefeated."

Sutton: "Oh you're a bit touchy there, Darrell!"

McCoist: "He's introduced the adjective 'pure' in to this invincibles thing, which is a bizarre one to me...

"But I think whether Rangers go through the season as unpure invincibles, as Chris likes to call them, I don't think that matters that much.

"I think the most important thing is they go and do a Scottish Cup and league double."
