Chris Sutton blasts Kilmarnock squad for 'getting above their station' with sacked boss Angelo Alessio

Outspoken pundit Chris Sutton has passionately defended departed Kilmarnock boss Angelo Alessio and slammed the Ayrshire outfits's players for "getting above their station".

Alessio was dismissed on Tuesday after a dressing room revolt over his methods and communication style.

But Sutton feels that the calibre of players that have worked with Alessio in the past at Chelsea and Juventus suggests that it is the players who have been at fault.

Speaking on BT Sport, he said: "I find it remarkable. It's some bar they are setting at Kilmarnock in sacking a manager in fifth place.

"Okay the team haven't scored in three games but overall I would say that's success.

"For a manager that's managed the likes of Buffon and Chiellini and top, top players - I don't get where this criticism of him comes from and a player revolt.

"They are getting above their station. This is a wrongful sacking and the next guy is going to have to go in and do remarkable things."

Alessio took over from Steve Clarke in the summer after the Scotland boss worked miracles, quickly tuning them from relegation fodder to the third best side in the Premiership.
