Chris Sutton aims cheeky Rangers barb as pundit takes issue with 'doing unbelievably well' Steven Gerrard praise

Chris Sutton admits Steven Gerrard is doing "very well" but couldn't resist a dig over the Rangers' manager's failure to deliver a trophy so far.

The Ibrox club hold an 11 point lead over Celtic at the top of the Premiership, albeit having played two games more, and have started the season unbeaten.

That's given Rangers fans hope of a first top-flight title since 2011 - and achieving it would surely prick up ears south of the border.

Ever since moving into management Gerrard has been linked with a future job with his beloved Liverpool.

And speaking on BBC Radio Five Live's 606 it was put to Sutton that Gerrard doing "unbelievably well" this term will have Anfield eyes on him.

He replied: "He's got to win something at Rangers first.

"He has won nothing yet.

"He has done unbelievably well? He hasn’t won anything in two seasons!

"He’s doing very well this season. I give you that. This season. He’s doing very well."

Gerrard made over 700 appearances for Liverpool as a player, helping his boyhood club to win the Champions League in 2005.
