Chris Scott keen to test himself against the best as Jeanfield go for cup glory

Chris Scott came up against some of the bigger names in Scottish football during his time at Arbroath.

Now the Jeanfield Swifts full-back is hoping to help piece together a memorable cup run with the Perth club.

Swifts have the chance to book a place in the first round proper of the Scottish Cup when they welcome Stirling University this weekend.

“When I was at Arbroath we didn’t really get very far in the Scottish Cup,” Scott said. “It would be nice to get a good run with Jeanfield.

“It did me the world of good playing against bigger teams because I was able to test myself. You always just need to believe in your ability.

“You always want to do well in the Scottish Cup because it is a great opportunity to play some of the bigger teams.

“But it’s important to treat this one as every other game. You don’t want to be too over-confident and then get knocked out.

“We’ll be trying our hardest and we’ll see what happens from that.”

Jeanfield came up against their Lowland League opponents at the beginning of the season, winning 3-1 in a friendly.

Since then Swifts have gone unbeaten in their East of Scotland Premier Division campaign and that has boosted confidence.

Scott, however, realises how difficult tomorrow’s preliminary round two tie will be.

He told the PA: “I played against Stirling in the friendly and they are a very good team.

“They were very organised, good on the ball and on the counter.

“I think we might actually be put down as favourites, even though they are in the league above. But of course it will be a tough game.

“We have really good quality in the team, especially this year. We’re all hoping we can win and get into the next round.

“We’re a confident bunch at the moment both individually and as a team.

“We’re unbeaten in the leagues and the cups.”
