Chris Robshaw has been ruled out of England’s autumn internationals in a huge blow to Eddie Jones' already injury hampered side.

The Harlequins flanker is believed to require surgery to his knee and is facing eight weeks on the sidelines.

England face South Africa, New Zealand, Japan and Australia in November and only yesterday was it revealed that Billy Vunipola has also been ruled out after breaking his arm for the third time this year.

Wasps' Joe Launchbury has also undergone knee surgery and his teammate Nathan Hughes is understood to be facing a six-week suspension after punching Gloucester forward Lewis Ludlow leaving Eddie Jones in a predicament to replenish his depleted forward pack.

Harlequins Head of Rugby Paul Gustard has released a statement regarding Robshaw this evening: “We are hugely disappointed to lose Chris for a short period of time while he recovers from this injury. Not least because he has been one of our standout performers across our first seven games this season and also because this period in the calendar provides the opportunity to represent England in the Autumn Internationals and I am sure he would have featured strongly in Eddie Jones’ plans for those matches."
