Chris Ramsey thanks Strictly Come Dancing fans for support as he awaits this Sunday night's verdict

Sharp-suited Chris Ramsey certainly looked the part on Saturday night as he and professional partner Karen Hauer took to the floor in Strictly Come Dancing.

In keeping with the Movie Week theme of the show, the pair glammed-up for their performance of an American Smooth - or foxtrot - to classic Top Hat track Cheek to Cheek.

And fans of the BBC favourite, which is now seeing the competition heat up, certainly thought they had pulled off a pretty smooth performance - while Ramsey himself took to Twitter afterwards to give his own verdict.

The South Shields comedian, 33, said he is having a laugh on the show and also trying his best but admitted "I know I'm not a born dancer."

On the night the performance - which saw Chris sporting slicked-hair to complement the smooth Hollywood-style look  - earned the duo scores of six from all the judges save for Craig Revel Horwood who gave a four which Chris deemed a bit harsh.

The local favourite, who is following up from last week's impressive performance , later tweeted his fans to say: "So much love coming in... Means the world guys!"

He added: "I know I’m not a born dancer but I’m trying me best, getting immersed in the experience and having a proper laugh too.

"Thanks for voting if you did! Let’s see what happens tomorrow... I’m off to wash this slick out of my hair!"

The show itself tweeted a clip of the pair's routine, saying: " (Top) Hats off to Chris Ramsey and Karen Hauer for this classy little number."

And Karen tweeted her partner: "Proud of you always."

Among fans urging others to vote for Ramsey was the Together Forever Trust - of which Ramsey is patron - set up in memory of Chloe Rutherford and Liam Curry who died in the Manchester Arena bombing in 2017.

Saturday night viewers were treated to a mixed bag of live performances from the celebrities and their professional partners and will be back glued to the box this Sunday evening to watch the the results show, with an added attraction set to be an appearance by Harry Connick Junior singing Anything Goes.

As usual social media was alive with comments from fans giving their own opinions of a show which delivered the usual mix of sparkling entertainment and colourful drama including the sight of Anton Du Beke as Austin Powers and Katya Jones taking tumbles, while Emmerdale actor Kelvin Fletcher - the latecomer to the show - is currently said to be the one tipped for overall success.

The results of all Saturday's performances can be seen this evening when Strictly is back on the air at 7.15pm on BBC1.
