Chris Ramsey gets amazing Musicals Week song as he aims for Strictly semi-final

His mean and moody paso doble got everyone talking last week but Chris Ramsey will go full circle for Musicals Week with an all-smiling, all-dancing routine to an absolute showstopper.

South Shields comedian Chris and professional partner Karen Hauer earned brilliant scores from the Strictly judges, as well as a fantastic reaction from the studio audience and millions of viewers at home, for to rather menacing track Run Boy Run.

But, after being blown away by the response and left surprised by his ability to be 'Mr Nasty', Chris can't wait to bring bags of fun to his and Karen's routine for Musicals Week on Saturday night, which will be to Oliver! classic Consider Yourself.

Chris has done very well with song choices so far, with an eclectic mix of tracks ranging from Frank Sinatra's Cheek to Cheek to PJ & Duncan's Let's Get Ready to Rhumble.

Another favourite saw Chris and Karen salsa up a storm to Uptown Funk and just like that routine, which went down a treat in Blackpool, they will be flanked by backing dancers for a cockney knees up and a half this weekend.

"I'm so excited for this week," he told ChronicleLive.

"Dancing still doesn't come naturally to me but the paso was particularly tough last week; I wasn't really getting at all until the Thursday night, whereas this week we were running it in full by Tuesday.

"And I hoping it's a good indication of how it'll go down on the night that the VT team who were in to film our rehearsals were all beaming from ear to ear after watching it.

"I'm playing the Artful Dodger and Karen is being Oliver Twist and then the fact that we're having backing dancers again will make it even more of a spectacle."

It would be fair to say Craig Revel-Horwood wasn't exactly in fine fettle last week, giving some very harsh comments and awarding scores as low as 4 during the live show, meaning Chris was left stunned by the always-hard-to-please judge's praise for his paso.

"After seeing him lay into everyone else I honestly thought standing in front of Craig last week would be like going in front of a firing squad," the 33-year-old joked.

"I actually joked to Karen that we should have maybe done a lap of honour around the room just to give the judges less time to comment. So to then turn and see Shirley and Motsi standing up and get brilliant comments from Craig was a shock!

"We are so grateful for all the support we keep getting from the public but, on top of that, it's amazing for me to have dance professionals actually like what I'm doing."
