Chris Paul worked with Dennis Smith Jr. in Las Vegas

With the Summer League in full swing, some younger players are taking advantage of the veterans who show up to catch a few games from the future of the league.

Among those who showed up to catch some summer hoops was the Rockets’ Chris Paul. The kid he mentored: New York Knick Dennis Smith Jr. — they hyper-athletic point guard who is growing in a league littered with talented players at his position.

Smith sought out Paul to help with leadership on the court, according to the New York Post.

Dennis Smith Jr. is making the most of his visit here.

According to an NBA source, the Knicks point guard has worked out with Rockets superstar Chris Paul while in Las Vegas, getting tips from one of the smartest playmakers in NBA history.

Paul and Smith share a North Carolina connection. Paul hails from Winston Salem, N.C. — which is two hours from Smith’s hometown of Fayetteville.

Smith was moved to the Knicks in the monster trade that sent Kristaps Porzingiz to the Dallas Mavericks before the NBA’s trade deadline. The Knicks weren’t able to land any of the top-tier max-level free agents, but with the addition of RJ Barrett, the Knicks are going to look to get to the postseason for the first time since the 2012-13 season.

Paul has been one of the best leaders and point guards in the NBA ever since he entered the league. There are few players Smith could learn from more in the NBA than CP3.
