The Phoenix Suns are going to the NBA Finals for the first time in 28 years. No one expected this to happen. That’s a pretty incredible story in itself.
But what makes it even better are the people who are steering the ship. Chris Paul and Monty Williams have been through a lot of ups and downs as a coach and player pairing.
The first seasons of Williams’ coaching career came with Chris Paul. They’d made the playoffs and lost in the first round to the Los Angeles Lakers. After that, the chaos that was the Chris Paul trade happened and the two were separated.
Now, a decade later, here they are back together again moving on to the NBA Finals with the Phoenix Suns. And they’ve both been through a lot in-between time to get to this point. But they’re here.
In a moment of pure joy, the two shared the biggest embrace when Wednesday night’s game against the Clippers was finally in hand. It was so amazing to watch.
