Chris Packham and Prince Charles planning secret eco summit

Chris Packham is planning a summit with Prince Charles on the environment.

The TV campaigner, 58, said they had been in talks ever since the prince gave him his CBE at Buckingham Palace in May.

He added: “It was his idea that we should meet up and talk about things. We are just waiting to fix a date now.

“He has a keen interest in wildlife and I have always admired him for speaking out. He has spoken from the heart and a lot of what he says makes sense.”

The BBC Springwatch presenter, who started out fronting the children’s Really Wild Show in 1986, was recognised for his services to nature conservation.

Packham also supports climate change activists Extinction Rebellion and wore their tie when he picked up his gong.

He added: “Charles is a figurehead and it’s good he is interested in talking about those things and broadening people’s awareness.”

On climate change, the environmentalist said everyone had to “change their habits accordingly”.

He added: “I’m just about to part exchange one of my cars to get an electric car because it’s time.

“These are the simple transitions we will have to make in our lives.”

Police are still investigating after Packham faced death threats and harassment following a legal bid in April to restrict the shooting of birds by his group Wild Justice.

He said: “I’ve had a couple of emails from the police who are still waiting for a couple of results from some of the things I was sent.

“But it is ongoing and, obviously, they are being diligent.”
