Chris Mokma to pitch in Minor League Baseball over Michigan State

Michigan State Baseball was, without a doubt, ecstatic about the commitment of Holland Christian pitcher Chris Mokma to the team. Unfortunately (well, fortunately for him, happy for him), he was drafted in the 12th round of the MLB draft by the Miami Marlins and has signed a contract with them which will lead him to the Minor Leagues.

MLB journalist Jim Callis revealed that Mokma, a 6-foot-5 righty has signed a contract for $557,000 with Miami. Mokma went 8-0 with a 1.23 ERA in his senior year of high school baseball. He also tied a state record with 3 career perfect games in high school. In addition, he hit a crazy .433 batting average. He was also named to the Michigan High School Baseball Coaches Association Dream Team and the Division 2 All-State First Team.

Michigan State’s baseball team could’ve really used the help here after a pretty bad season. They went 20-34 on the year, going 8-15 in their own conference. One bright spot? They did at least have a winning record (11-8) at home.
