Chris Maxwell a Hibs target as Paul Heckingbottom looks to sign Preston goalkeeper on loan

Hibernian are eyeing up a loan deal for Preston keeper Chris Maxwell.

Easter Road boss Paul Heckingbottom is keen on taking the experienced shot stopper to Easter Road for the season.

Hibs also have Ofir Marciano but Heckingbottom wants to bring in more competition for the No. 1 slot – although the Israeli international has also hinted he could also be heading towards the exit door this summer.

The Leith outfit had Adam Bogdan on-loan from Liverpool last season and want to strike a similar deal with North End for Maxwell.

The 28-year-old spent the second half of last season on-loan at Charlton.

Maxwell also knows his chances of regaining the top spot under Alex Neil look limited, with Declan Rudd and Connor Ripley both ahead of him.

Maxwell, who has also turned out for Wrexham and Fleetwood, has been at Deepdale since 2016 and could well end up being a direct replacement for Marciano.

The 29-year-old has been quoted in his homeland saying he is looking to push on with his career and to try and win a move to a bigger club.

Marciano said: “Personally, I want to concentrate on the team and there are those who take care of it ... I’m looking forward to moving on to bigger clubs.

“It gives you a good feeling, you work hard and such interest is an appreciation for yourself, it’s good.

“I want to keep myself moving on. In our short career we have to move forward as quickly as possible, I did a good season and I feel like I deserve to move forward, I hope to make that upgrade and jump forward.

“I got better and moved forward. Last season I was halted because of the injury, but since the move to Scotland, I have been showing good ability and it was a good move for my career.

“I believe the last year is the leap I was hoping to do.”

Heckingbottom has already been active this summer.

He has signed defender Adam Jackson from former club Barnsley, while there was already a deal in place for Hibs to re-sign Scott Allan on a pre-contract from Celtic.

Talks are also still on-going with Genoa to see if they would be able to extend Stephen Omeonga’s stay in Leith.
