Chris Kavanagh to take charge of Everton game for first time since Carlo Ancelotti red card

Chris Kavanagh is set to take charge of an Everton game for the first time since sending Carlo Ancelotti off in March.

The referee will take charge of the club's final match of the campaign at home to Bournemouth, with Eddie Howe's side looking to save themselves from relegation.

The official was at the centre of controversy at the end of the Blues' 1-1 draw with Manchester United at Goodison Park after Dominic Calvert-Lewin's late goal was disallowed.

Gylfi Sigurdsson was adjudged to have been offside and in the goalkeeper's line of vision as the striker's shot deflected off Harry Maguire and beyond David de Gea - and was ruled out after a long VAR check.

Ancelotti approached Kavanagh after the full time whistle to discuss the incident and was shown a red card by the referee.

The Everton boss later said: "There was no explanation [from the referee]. I asked for one. After the game there was a misunderstanding on the pitch, he sent me off, after that I spoke with him calmly.

"I want to keep this conversation private, now he's doing a report to the Football Association and we will see.

"For sure I didn't disrespect him, but I can understand also at the end of the game, there is a lot of pressure and excitement, a lot of important decisions but I didn't disrespect him."

Daniel Cook and Sian Massey-Ellis will be the assistant's for Sunday's clash, with Geoff Eltringham as the fourth official.

Graham Scott has been confirmed as the VAR for the game, with Mark Scholes as the assistant.
