Chris Kane offered surprise Celtic 'red card' Cristiano Ronaldo defence after Liverpool flashpoint

Chris Kane should NOT have been sent off against Celtic claims Hugh Keevins - because Cristiano Ronaldo remained on the park for lashing out.

The St Johnstone striker became involved in an incident with defender Cameron Carter-Vickers during the Parkhead side's 2-0 Premiership win on Saturday.

Kane appeared to take a kick at the on-loan Tottenham centre-back as lay over the ball, and Kane's hands were raised in a tussle after the incident.

Whistler Nick Walsh opted to book both the St Johnstone man and the Celtic defender.

Pundit Keevins has backed the referee's decision to keep his red card in his pocket, comparing it to Ronaldo's flashpoint against Liverpool.

With Manchester United trailing 3-0, the superstar appeared to kick out at Curtis Jones following Anthony Taylor's whistle.

Despite the protests of Andy Robertson and an ensuing melee, Ronaldo was only handed a yellow card.

Keevins reckons that if both officials went for the same call, it shows that the rule book was applied correctly.

He told Clyde 1 Super Scoreboard: "We are always asking referees to take a breath, and just take that nano-second to think about it.

"Nick Walsh did well there.

"I was watching Manchester United against Liverpool yesterday, and interestingly for me Cristiano Ronaldo did a Chris Kane.

"The decision was the same one, he gave Ronaldo a yellow card, when you thought 'that looks like a red to me'.

"So, referees north and south of the border arrived at the same conclusion whether it was Chris Kane or Ronaldo."
