Chris Kamara details what might cause Liverpool to falter in title challenge

Sky Sports pundit Chris Kamara has pinpointed what could cause runaway Premier League leaders Liverpool to slip up in their bid to end a 30-year wait to be national champions.

The Reds are already eight points clear of second-placed Leicester after just 15 games this term, while defending champions Man City are a further three adrift in third.

Jurgen Klopp's men look well placed to end their league title drought having last won the championship back in 1990 when it was known as the First Division.

However, the Anfield club must contest with a congested fixture list over the coming weeks, competing in the Club World Cup in Qatar this month after winning the Champions League title in June.

And former top-flight midfielder Kamara feels that competing on so many fronts may prove to be Liverpool's undoing this term.

"The only thing against them could be the fixture congestion, not injuries or anything like that," said the 61-year-old at the Pride of Sport Awards on Thursday night.

"It's amazing how you find an inner strength when you're in a situation like this and they seem to be finding that every week."

Kamara, though, did concede that Liverpool were his clear favourites in the title race such is their advantage so early in the campaign.

"I would think it's Liverpool's to lose now. They lost it last year when they were this amount of points clear, but this time around and when you look at what Jurgen Klopp did on Wednesday," he added.

"The way he changed the team leaving the likes of Mohamed Salah out, all of a sudden nobody is guaranteed a place anymore.

"The whole squad want to be involved and want to make sure they perform at the highest level. There's only one winner for me."
