Chris Hughton 'waiting on Bristol City' job before making Birmingham City decision - report

Chris Hughton is waiting on the Bristol City job before making a decision on the Birmingham City vacancy, according to a report.

The bookies favourite for the Robins top job is reportedly interested in taking over at Ashton Gate, and despite the Blues being poised to make Hughton an offer, he is waiting on Bristol City to make a decision on their next manager.

Bristol City parted company with Lee Johnson following the 1-0 loss to Cardiff City and have spent the last week fielding calls and applications from interested parties.

Bristol Live understands that Hughton is interested in taking over from Johnson and the Sun on Sunday report that he is willing to bide his time before committing to a job elsewhere.

Pep Clotet left his role as Birmingham manager last week and the club are sniffing around similar candidates to that of Bristol City, with the Robins not wanting to rush into making a decision.

Dean Holden has won his first two games as interim manager and with the play-offs now not expected to be reached, the club will take their time in assessing candidates before making a decision.

According to the report, Hughton is also waiting to see whether the Fulham role becomes available before deciding on any offer from the Blues.

Scott Parker's side are looking nailed on the make the play-offs this year, but should they fail to be promoted Fulham could decide to part ways with their former midfielder.

Lee Bowyer is currently favourite to take over at St Andrew's, ahead of Robbie Fowler, Nigel Clough and Steven Gerrard.

Gerrard has also reportedly been 'earmarked' as the man to take over at Ashton Gate, according to a report this morning. Bristol City are also believed to have Lee Bowyer on their shortlist, along with Plymouth manager Ryan Lowe.
