Chris Hughton provides injury update on Nottingham Forest duo ahead of Huddersfield Town clash

Nottingham Forest will make late fitness calls on injured duo Sammy Ameobi and Tobias Figueiredo for Saturday’s clash with Huddersfield Town.

Winger Ameobi missed last weekend’s 0-0 draw away to Bristol City with a slight ankle injury, while defender Figueiredo has been absent for the last three games with a hamstring problem.

Midfielders Samba Sow (groin) and Harry Arter (calf) remain out of action, and wide man Joe Lolley is a longer-term absentee due to a hamstring tear.

“We’ll wait on Sammy until tomorrow. We’ll see how he is then,” said Reds boss Chris Hughton ahead of facing the Terriers (12.30pm kick-off).

“We were hoping he was going to be training today, but he didn’t.

“Toby did train today. He’ll train tomorrow, so it will be a decision on whether to include him in the squad for Saturday - but he is back training.

“The only other two who are out are Samba Sow, who has a very slight groin problem, and Harry Arter, who isn’t back training yet.”

A run of four games unbeaten means Forest are all but assured of another season in the Championship.

With five matches remaining, they are 15th in the table, 10 points clear of the bottom three.

Huddersfield are in 19th spot, with a five-point cushion between them and the relegation zone - and they are without a win in five outings.

Hughton’s side can take confidence from recent victories over Cardiff City and QPR as they look to build some momentum going into the summer.

And the manager believes there is not a significant gap between his team and those at the top end of the table.

“As regards lots of aspects of our play, no, I don’t think we are too far away,” he said.

“I’ve only got to think back to the games we’ve had against the better teams in the division this season - i.e. the top six and those around the top six. I don’t think there has been a massive difference.

“I think the differences are at both ends.

“We have been quite solid as a team and most of our games have been close, but we haven’t been able to score the goals that win you games.

“But for our level of performance, I don’t think we are that far away.”
