Chris Hughton provides an update on Nottingham Forest's January transfer plans

Boss Chris Hughton says he anticipates a quiet first week of the transfer window for Nottingham Forest.

Clubs now have a month in which to do business, with January the first real chance for Hughton to put his mark on the dressing room.

The Reds manager is not planning major changes, but incomings - and outgoings - are expected.

"Massive win" - Sarah Clapson's video verdict as Nottingham Forest start 2021 with a victory

Forest started 2021 in the best possible fashion, with a 1-0 victory over Preston North End thanks to Lewis Grabban's penalty at Deepdale.

But after bolstering their points tally, the expectation is they will not immediately be doing the same to their squad.

Asked if he thought there would be any business done before the FA Cup clash with Cardiff City next weekend, Hughton told NottinghamshireLive: "Probably not.

"Most work seems to get done in the second half of January, as opposed to the first half.

"But we will try.

"January is always very difficult and we have got to make sure that anything we do adds to what we have got and improves us, otherwise there is no point.

"I am really looking forward to a clear week with no midweek game, before the FA Cup.

"That will allow me to do some work with the ones who perhaps haven't been playing so much, and look forward to the FA Cup game."
