Chris Hughton names Nottingham Forest team to face Sheffield Wednesday - with a surprise inclusion on bench

Nottingham Forest boss Chris Hughton makes one change to his XI as he names his starting line-up to face Sheffield Wednesday.

But there is a surprise inclusion on the bench, in his matchday squad.

With Sheffield United loanee Luke Freeman’s season ended early by injury, after being forced off in the first half of last weekend’s 1-1 draw against Stoke City, Anthony Knockaert has been brought back into the side.

Meanwhile, there is a place among the substitutes for Michael Dawson - the first time he has been involved all term.

The veteran defender is out of contract in the summer and had not been included in the Reds’ 25-man EFL squad prior to today. But he may get the chance to get an unexpected run-out against the Owls.

Hughton names the same back four as last time out, with Yuri Ribeiro keeping his place at left-back, Cyrus Christie on the right and Joe Worrall in Scott McKenna in the heart of the defence, ahead of goalkeeper Brice Samba.

Ryan Yates and James Garner retain their midfield spots, with Knockaert set to come into the attacking three, alongside Cafu and Filip Krovinovic, in support of lone striker Lewis Grabban.

In addition to Dawson, Jordan Smith, Loic Mbe Soh, Jack Colback, Gaetan Bong, Carl Jenkinson, Alex Mighten, Glenn Murray and Lyle Taylor are named on the bench.

Forest go into the game with Championship safety already secured, after last weekend’s 1-1 draw against Stoke City.

But Hughton has made clear he will be taking this fixture as seriously as any other, as he wants to finish the season well, while the relegation-threatened hosts still have plenty to play for.

Forest: Samba, Christie, Worrall, McKenna, Ribeiro, Garner, Yates, Knockaert, Cafu, Krovinovic, Grabban. Subs: Smith, Mbe Soh, Colback, Bong, Jenkinson, Mighten, Dawson, Murray, Taylor.
