Chris Hughton makes transfer vow as Nottingham Forest chase further signings

Chris Hughton has vowed Nottingham Forest will not make signings for the sake of it but does hope to bolster their attack before the end of the January window.

After overseeing a solid 3-1 win over Millwall at the weekend, the Reds boss confirmed he is still eager to add fresh faces as he looks to steer Forest further away from the Championship's bottom three.

Strengthening the creative areas of the pitch remains his biggest priority with Forest having struggled for goals this term which has been a major cause for their struggles this season.

Only Birmingham, Derby, Sheffield Wednesday and Wycombe have scored fewer in the Championship as Saturday's victory over a passive Millwall side made it 19 goals for the season so far.

Speaking afterwards, Hughton confirmed he wants to do some business but only if quality becomes available.

"We are still working as hard as we can. And if we do (bring players in), then great," he said.

"We won't bring players in just for the sake of it because we do have a big squad and we've tried to get that balance a little bit different which is why a couple have gone out already.

"But January's at a very difficult time. What is certainly more important is finishing the end of the month with, if we can, a nice balance to squad.

"But more the important one for us would be if we have an opportunity to bring players in and improve the squad.

"The problem that we have is that little bit of creativity, even though I thought we were really good on Saturday. And I hope we can take this forward and start showing more, get more opportunities and more goals."

Forest have already made a few moves in the January market by extending the loan signing of Fulham's Anthony Knockaert until the end of the season.

There have also been departures with left-back Nicholas Ioannou heading to Greece to join Aris, while defender Tendayi Darikwa has also left the club to join League One Wigan.
