Chris Hughton makes transfer admission as Nottingham Forest 'running out of time'

Boss Chris Hughton says he is not expecting any new Nottingham Forest signings before Saturday’s trip to face Derby County.

But he is “hopeful” of getting the additions he needs before next Tuesday’s transfer deadline.

Goalkeeper Ethan Horvath, attacking midfielder Philip Zinckernagel, full-back Jordi Osei-Tutu and midfielder James Garner have come through the City Ground doors so far.

The Reds remain very light on options in certain areas of the pitch, though, with Hughton keen for more strength in depth after a tough start to the season.

His team go to Pride Park sitting bottom of the Championship, without any points to their name after four league games.

Asked if any arrivals are likely before then, Hughton said: “No, but you never know.

“We’ve spoken a lot about this window and how there has been frustrations that we haven’t been able to get in the numbers we wanted to early, to give us an opportunity to work with them. But those are the circumstances.

“We are probably not the only club in those circumstances.

“It would be nice if there were some additions before the weekend, but at this moment, I have no idea.”

Full-back and up front, in particular, are positions of priority, with the clock ticking on the Reds being able to get deals over the line.

The summer window closes at 11pm on Tuesday - and Hughton anticipates a busy few days ahead.

“It’s always very difficult to state cases and feelings,” he said, when asked if he was confident of bringing in the numbers required.

“All I can say is the club are working as hard as possible, as hard as they can, to bring in the numbers we need, as quickly as we can.

“Yes, we are running out of time. Certainly, once we get past the weekend, we are approaching the last couple of days of the window.

“In most windows, there’s been a lot of work done in a short period of time.

“I’m very much hoping and hopeful, and that’s all I can be.”
