Chris Hughton makes summer transfer admission on Nottingham Forest defender

A loan move could be in the offing for Nottingham Forest defender Loic Mbe Soh next season as he looks to get regular game time under his belt.

The 19-year-old is highly thought of at the City Ground, including by boss Chris Hughton, but has found it tough to get minutes on the pitch following his move from PSG last summer.

Mbe Soh has made seven appearances in the Garibaldi since then - and scored his first goal for the club in a 2-1 defeat at Middlesbrough.

But he has not featured since coming off the bench as the Reds drew 0-0 at home to Barnsley in January.

With Joe Worrall, Scott McKenna and Tobias Figueiredo fighting for a centre-back spot, while veteran defender Michael Dawson has not been included in the 25-man squad, competition for a place in the team is fierce.

And Hughton admits that could mean Mbe Soh heads elsewhere for a spell next term, to help with his development.

“We think about his situation very much,” he said ahead of facing Huddersfield Town on Saturday.

“It’s been a bit frustrating for him. He’s a good player, Loic, and he’s a young one.

“One way to develop is being around the first-team and training with the squad every week.

“But of course the best way to develop is playing games.

“We haven’t been able to give him the games which would really add to his development.

“We’ll have a good think about Loic in the summer.

“He’s our player and we’re delighted with him. We see, hopefully, a good future for him at this club.

“But we’ll make some decisions with him for next season, whether he stays or whether a short loan period to get some games in would benefit him.

“We’ll make those decisions in the summer.”

Hughton is facing some big calls over his squad when this campaign comes to an end.

Several players are out of contract, while another five will return to their parent clubs after loan spells Trentside.

Others will come back to the City Ground after being out on loan elsewhere this term.

“We’ve got a lot of decisions to make come the end of the season,” Hughton told Notts TV in his pre-match press conference.

“It’s been a very different season and a very difficult season for all clubs, and all clubs will have to make a lot of big decisions.

“But generally, by the time the season finishes and you go into the summer, the plans start to come to fruition.

“You can get some nice surprises - players who have come back that you are pleasantly surprised by, and others you have got to make big decisions about.”
