Chris Hughes breaks down on This Morning as he praises 'brave' girlfriend Jesy Nelson

Chris Hughes praised his "strong" girlfriend Jesy Nelson over the impact her harrowing BBC documentary Odd One Out, which focused on the effects of trolling, had on viewers.

The Little Mix star opened up earlier in the year in powerful scenes, about her struggles with online bullying since she shot to fame on The X Factor in 2011.

Jesy received huge praise from fans, viewers and stars across the country over the moving and important discussions featured in her special episode.

Proud boyfriend Chris revealed how "overwhelmed" she was about the impact and reception it got once it aired earlier this year.

Speaking on This Morning, Chris broke down as he himself became emotional about what she went through and how she's overcome her ordeal.

He told hosts Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield: "She was completely overwhelmed.

"She rang me bless her 10 minutes after it aired. She was so overwhelmed, she just broke down on the phone to me. She's a strong girl now."

Chris then became upset recalling what his girlfriend went through, and placed his head in his hands.

As Holly supported the Love Island star, he found himself unable to speak but explained what had upset him.

Praising the "brilliant" documentary and his girlfriend, he said the singer was "brave" and "strong".

He said: "I don't know why I get so emotional every time I speak about it."

Chris, who has always been very open about his own battles with his physical health and mental health, confessed he only gets emotional when he's discussing other people.

He was on the show to raise awareness for the Movember foundation ahead of his own BBC 3 documentary with brother Ben about male fertility issues, Me, My Brother and Our Balls.

He went on: "She's so brave, so strong. She didn't deserve any of that," adding she was amazing.

Taking to Twitter, viewers shared their support for the star and praised him for being so supportive of Jesy.

One viewer said: "I hope I find someone that loves me as much as Chris loves Jesy! Bless him!"

Another agreed: "What a beautiful relationship her & Chris have!"

This Morning airs weekdays and Sundays at 10:30am on ITV.
