Basketball is done for the year as far as we know. As a measure to help control the spread of the Coronavirus, the Big Ten canceled the remainder of the men’s basketball tournament. It also issued a statement later in the day canceling all athletic events through the remainder of the academic year.
Many other conferences followed suit by canceling their own respective tournaments and athletic events The NCAA then got in on the act and canceled the men’s and women’s NCAA Basketball Tournament and other championships.
It’s a big disappointment for those looking to participate, especially the seniors on teams that wanted one final shot, and in some cases, their only shot to play in one of the greatest sporting events in the world.
Reaction is coming in from all over the sporting world, and of course Ohio State head coach Chris Holtmann is severely impacted with his team being in the wake of it all.
He provided a statement through his Twitter account that put everything into perspective.
That about sums it up. Many players, fans, coaches, workers and volunteers are sorely disappointed, but in the end it was a decision that almost had to be made.
