Chris Hemsworth donates $1 million to fight against Australian bushfire crisis

Chris Hemsworth has made a huge donation to fight the ongoing Australian bushfire crisis.

The Australian actor and Thor star, 36, has given a huge $1 million in aid of bushfire recovery as the disaster in his home country continues.

He announced his donation in a post on Instagram , having followed the likes of to help fight the effects of the horrific fires.

Hemsworth writes in the social media post: "Like you, I want to support the fight against the bushfires here in Australia. My family and I are contributing a million dollars. Hopefully you guys can chip in too."

He added: "In my bio I’ve added links to support the fire fighters, organisations and charities who are working flat out to provide support and relief during this devastating and challenging time.

"Beyond appreciative to everyone around the world for their well wishes and donations. It really does make a difference, so dig deep! Love ya."

The video was swiftly reposted by Hemsworth's wife and Fast & Furious franchise star Elsa Pataky and his younger brother Liam Hemsworth.

Red Cross Australia commented in response to the post: "We are blown away by your support. We cannot thank you enough @chrishemsworth !"

Additionally, Hemsworth's Avengers co-star Robert Downey Jr. replied in the comments with a prayer hands emoji and a heart.

Other Instagram users also took to the comments section to express their praise of and gratitude to the Thor star.

One wrote: "We see you @chrishemsworth & we thank you x"

Another said: "Phenomenal support. Thank you"

While a different user wrote: "You’re a champion thank you so much!!!"

Fire services in Australia have recently warned that hospitals in the country are under threat while the continuing blazes have been shown to be visible from space in satellite images from NASA.
