Chris Hemsworth and his wife Elsa Pataky have been shamed after shoving birthday cake in their son's face.

Mum-of-three, Elsa pushed her son's head into his birthday cake while dad Chris smiled in the background.

The actor shared a photo of the event to his Instagram page but it has since sparked a debate between his followers.

The post has since earned more than a million likes less than 24 hours after it was posted.

He captioned the post with a birthday tribute message to his twin boys, Sasha and Tristan, saying: "Happy 9th birthday to my two little men!

"Only one way to eat cake in this house and that’s to have mum slam your head into it face first!!" he continued.

The joked by mimicking his son saying: "Hey mum I don’t like chocolate cake I prefer vanilla,

"Oh really son, what about now?" before he tagged his wife.

Fans took to the comments to discuss whether they thought the parents were being funny or harsh.

One annoyed follower wrote: "Why people smash their kids face in the cake is above my understanding but whatever."

As a second said: "It’s so violent." while a third wrote: "whhhyyyyy do people think this is funny."

As another commented: "Agreed. I think it’s ridiculous."

However, another fired back: "Because it’s funny and a family tradition and it give kids a memory to laugh at and then the look forward to it happening to their siblings and they share the joy."

"That is the correct and only way to eat a yummy chocolate cake…," one joked.

"8 is a fabulous age….to get your face slammed into a chocolate cake," another wrote with a laughing face emoji.

A shocked fan wrote: "Violent? It’s a bit of play! Those kids are gonna grow up able to take a joke not be some little fairy who thinks having their head dipped in frosting is violent."

Others pointed out that Chris was having a "Proud Dad Moment" as another said he was in a "proud dad stance".
