Chris Harris highlights Broncos’ projected cornerback depth chart

Chris Harris got the extra money he was looking for from the Denver Broncos or at least some of it. The Broncos will not be shipping Harris out via trade and he will not be skipping the upcoming season.

He will still be a free agent following the season, making this a very important season for him and the future of the Denver secondary. With that in mind, let’s take a look at the team’s projected depth chart at the cornerback position, which should provide a glimpse into how the team’s future could look like at the position if this is, in fact, Harris’ last season with the team.

Starters: Harris, Kareem Jackson

No real surprise here as Harris and Denver’s big free-agent acquisition, Jackson, will open the season as starters barring any kind of freak injuries between now and then.

Together, these two have a combined 35 interceptions for their careers.

Nickelback: Bryce Callahan

(Dennis Wierzbicki-USA TODAY Sports)

Callahan is a player fans should be quite excited about due to his familiarity with Vic Fangio and the style of defense he likes to play. Callahan had 45 tackles and two interceptions for the Chicago Bears last season.

Second-string: Isaac Yiadom, De’Vante Bausby

Yiadom struggled as a rookie but showed plenty of promise through those struggles as he received more on-field action than the team likely planned on giving him. That experience is something he can build off of in a big way.

Bausby was signed following his success in the now-defunct Alliance of American Football. He does have some NFL experience under his belt and is one of the more intriguing players on the roster.

Third-string: Alijah Holder, Horace Richardson

(Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports)

Holder is one of the better looking undrafted rookies on the roster and the team clearly sees something in him as he received the biggest signing bonus of any of the undrafted players they signed.

Richardson also took the undrafted route to get to the professional ranks. The Broncos are his fourth NFL team.

The rest: Linden Stephens, Trey Johnson

These two guys will be fighting for spots on the practice squad while looking to turn as many heads as possible in preseason and training camp.

Stephens is an undrafted player out of Cincinnati. Johnson has been with the team for about a month after earning a roster spot at one of the team’s tryouts. He spent the 2018 season with the Pittsburgh Steelers but missed the entire year due to a shoulder injury.
