Chris Hankinson is set to take up a deal with Toulouse Olympique following his release from Wigan.
The Warriors confirmed the departure of the centre on Monday evening, despite having another year to run on his deal.
Hankinson, a goal-kicker, joined the club from Swinton Lions midway through 2018. He was loaned out to Championship club London Broncos last season where he made an impression, and while he was expected to return to Wigan this year, he has now been released from his contract.
The 27-year-old is now set to make the move to the newly-promoted French club, ending their near two-year pursuit of the outside back.
Toulouse head coach Sylvain Houles is a known admirer of Hankinson, who started his professional career with Leigh Centurions. They have previously chased the player but have been unsuccessful. Now, they have their man.
Hankinson will become Toulouse's fourth signing since their promotion to Super League. James Cunningham, Gadwin Springer and Matty Russell have all made the move to France ahead of their Super League arrival.
His Wigan career ends after making 23 appearances, scoring four tries.
Though Hankinson wasn't part of the Wigan squad last year, his departure does raise questions about the club's squad depth. The Warriors continuously struggled in the outside backs last year, with Willie Isa and Liam Farrell having to fill in at centre. Iain Thornley will replace Oliver Gildart but Hankinson was expected to provide depth.
Lebanon's international winger Abbas Miski replaces the retired Dom Manfredi, leaving Sam Halsall and Umyla Hanley to now provide competition.
