Chris Eubank Jr vs Conor Benn latest: Fight state of play after failed drugs test

Chris Eubank Jr and Conor Benn will today face an anxious wait, with the pair still clinging onto hope that their catchweight fight will be given the green light this weekend.

With news breaking yesterday that Benn had returned an adverse drug test for banned substance Clomifene, the event was cast under serious doubt. Wasserman and Matchroom Boxing then released a statement shortly after confirming the fight was still set to go ahead.

However, just hours later, the British Boxing Board of Control then responded insisting that no such bout could take place and that any such fight was 'prohibited'. The two are set to face off again at today's press conference, with fans waiting with bated breath regarding a final decision.

Sources today have since revealed to the Daily Mail how the fight is still set to be given the go-ahead, but under what terms remain to be disclosed. With both fighters taking place in yesterday's public workout in front of the media, Eubank Jr insisted he himself has no time for such games as he and his team await a verdict.

''I'm staying out of the politics,'' he began. ''I don't know what's gone on, I've heard the news like you guys and all I can do is be a professional and make sure I'm ready to fight. I'm ready and as news unfolds, we'll deal with it as news goes on.

It has since been revealed that Benn is now trying to secure an injunction at a High Court hearing today. Lawyers acting on behalf of the 25-year-old are bidding to reverse the decision made by the BBBC in the hope Saturday's bout can still go ahead.

With rumours also suggesting the weight category may be grounds for a rethink, a decision is expected to be made by the end of play today.
