Chris Eubank Jr slams "moron" Billy Joe Saunders in scathing attack on old rival

Chris Eubank Jr has branded long-term foe Billy Joe Saunders a "moron" and an "idiot" in a scathing social media rant.

There is no love lost between the middleweight rivals, who met in a 2014 bout which Saunders won on a split points decision.

Saunders has repeatedly found himself in hot water since, with his latest antics landing him a suspension by the British Boxing Board of Control.

The Hatfield-born star has been heavily criticised for a video he posted on social media appearing to show him giving advice to men on how to hit their partners.

Eubank Jr is the latest person to weigh-in on Saunders by venting his anger on Twitter.

He fumed: "So @bjsaunders a women beating, COVID-19 hoaxing, drug abusing, police impersonating Moron... oh yeah paid a vulnerable women to punch an innocent man in the face as-well.

"How many more chances is this idiot going to get before his license is taken away for a good amount of time."

Saunders is already facing a lengthy spell outside of the ring already after the BBBC suspended his licence until a future hearing.

The WBO super-middleweight champion was in line to face Mexican superstar Canelo Alvarez this year, but that bout now looks in doubt.

Saunders' promoter Eddie Hearn condemned his fighter's behaviour, and stated he was "appalled" at the nature of the video, which seemingly condoned domestic abuse.

The 30-year-old has since apologised for his actions, and pledged a £25,000 donation to a domestic abuse charity.

In his apology he spoke of how he had received death threats for his actions, adding: "It was a silly mistake. I certainly wouldn’t promote domestic violence.

"My sense of humour is not everyone’s cup of tea."

But Eubank Jr feels the BBBC should throw the book at Saunders, and believes the fighter is giving his fellow professionals a bad name.

In a separate tweet, Eubank Jr added: "As fighters at the top we have the kids looking up to us, copying what we do inside & outside of the ring.

"Having @bjsaunders as a representative of boxing is an injustice to all women suffering in abusive relationships & to the kids who look to learn from us as ambassadors."

The incident started a sorry couple of weeks for boxing which also saw super-welterweight Scott Fitzgerald arrested in suspicion of assault after a row with his ex-girlfriend.

Fitzgerald - who is also signed to Hearn's Matchroom Sport agency - posted messages on social media detailing his arrest.

He said: "Ta f *** da to the police station. Twenty four hours in a cell, that's some heavy s***."

In a further video message he added: "Yesterday I was arrested after a kick off with my ex-partner and her family."

Police enquiries into the incident are ongoing.
