Chris Eubank Jr shares hospital video and reveals 'health issues' in new update on boxing future

Chris Eubank Jr says he is unsure when he will be able to fight again after opening up on his ongoing health issues in a concerning update released on social media.

Eubank Jr posted a video to his official X and Instagram accounts on Tuesday that showed him lying in a hospital bed attached to wires and being attended to by doctors.

He did not reveal any specific details of the problems he was experiencing.

Eubank Jr wrote: “I’ve been dealing with a lot of health issues over the last year & yeah it all finally caught up to me last month.

“I will not box again until I’m back to 100% & I don’t know when that will be, but one things for certain… For the fans that have supported me through thick & thin, I will do everything in my power to make sure that one day, the old me makes a big comeback.”

Eubank Jr had alluded to problems after his shock defeat by arch-rival Conor Benn in their high-profile rematch at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium last month, saying he had been “through hell and back to get here today”.

He said: “Right now, I'm not really in the state of mind to be thinking about next fights. I need to heal. I need to deal with what I'm dealing with and then after that I can start thinking about my path in the sport.”

Eubank Jr’s struggles with the weight cut for his pair of middleweight bouts against Benn were well-documented and he was fined £375,000 after missing weight for the first fight by 0.05lb.

He was taken to hospital in the aftermath of his initial points win over Benn in April, undergoing checks and spending two nights before being discharged.

Claims that he had suffered a broken jaw proved to be unfounded, though Eubank Jr did later say he had surgery to “sew up” a cut near his right eye that he claimed was caused by a “headbutt” during the fight.

Despite their personal rivalry now being even at one win apiece, Benn insisted after his emphatic rematch triumph that there would be no trilogy fight against Eubank Jr, declaring the long-running family saga that started in the 1990s with famous fathers Nigel Benn and Chris Eubank Sr to be “finished” as he stated his ambition to instead return to his natural home of welterweight and compete for world titles.

On Tuesday, Benn was made the mandatory challenger for the WBC title at 147lbs currently held by Mario Barrios, who is set to defend his belt for the third time against Ryan Garcia in February.

“Just got the news that I’ve been made number one in the WBC rankings, mandatory for the WBC world title,” Benn announced in a short video on X. “I’ll be watching Barrios vs Garcia closely.

“I want the winner, early next year. God willing, that WBC title is mine. I’ll be coming for that belt and Britain will have a new world champion. Let’s have it. Come on.”
