Chris Eubank Jr's team considering appeal to BBBofC over alleged elbow during Liam Smith loss

Chris Eubank Jr's promotional team are considering an appeal to the British Boxing Board of Control over an alleged elbow from Liam Smith in his stoppage win.

Eubank Jr suffered a devastating defeat to Smith on Saturday night in Manchester as he was brutally knocked out by the Rotunda fighter in the fourth round of their clash.

But Kalle Sauerland, Eubank Jr’s promoter, has revealed his team are considering an appeal to the BBBofC about Smith's use of an elbow in the combination that led to the first knockdown.

"We are looking at it," the Wasserman Boxing chief revealed to Sky Sports, when asked about a potential appeal.

Taking to Instagram following the fight, Eubank Jr's trainer, Roy Jones Jr, also suggested an illegal blow.

He said: "Avoid Roy Jones Jr as a trainer! Never mind this elbow…… Just avoid him - Damn, If I can take all that away from a fighter via training, no wonder I raised so much hell in my day!!"

Reflecting on the fight, Sauerland said: "It was a night of high drama. I think it was one of the biggest upsets in recent times, for sure.

"We were victim to a great punch from the gods. I think it was setting up to be a very good fight. I thought, especially in the third round, Jr was coming into it very strongly.

"And then came that punch, and that's boxing. That's the exciting part of the sport, and I'm sure there's a score to be settled down the road."
