Chris Eubank Jr admits he has no gameplan against late-replacement opponent

Chris Eubank Jr has admitted he has no gameplan to face late replacement Anatoli Muratov on Saturday night.

The Briton was set to face undefeated Sven Elbir at the SSE Arena, before he was forced to withdraw after testing positive for coronavirus.

And he now faces a relatively unknown challenger, who is notorious for his power-punching style during his middleweight career.

Eubank Jr has admitted he hasn't yet come up with a "gameplan" for his late replacement opponent but is confident of recording an explosive victory.

“I have probably seen about five minutes of my opponent because of the late change," Eubank Jr said at the press conference. "But I will watch some more of him and get through him again.

"But I have never been knocked out at middleweight, so this guy is going to have a rough night. I have never looked past any opponent, it is a process at this level.

“I don’t even actually have a game plan to take on this opponent right now because I don’t really know much about him.

“The chin does not move for anybody, I have even sparred heavyweights and never been knocked out, so as I say this guy is going to have a rough night.

The British middleweight's confidence continues to shine through despite some outside-of-the-ring issues including the death of his brother Sebastian Eubank.

And he has also faced fitness issues, brought on by testing positive for coronavirus and suffering other illness in the build-up.

Will Eubank Jr become middleweight world champion? Let us know your verdict in the comments section below.

But the 32-year-old is certain he can put the problems behind him, and is well positioned to challenge for world titles later this year.

“You know this is what we do, activity is the main goal for me this year I want to fight at least three times," Eubank Jr continued. "I want to be back in the ring in December on Sky Sports, everything is going to plan.

“I believe so this is the next chapter, I think this is the most exciting one with so many huge fights out there to be made. I have got a hell of a lot more fights left in me, for my current situation this is a good fight for me for where I am at right now.

"After this name we are on to bigger and better names and ready to challenge for world titles.

“I have had Covid recently and just as I returned I suffered from another illness as well as personal issues so I have had to rebuild physically and mentally and this is the perfect opponent for me at this stage of my career.

“I have to make statements every time I go in the ring, and it will be interesting to see how things affect me but I am confident.

Eubank Jr has also remained open to the possibility of stepping up to the super-middleweight division, and is keen to challenge Canelo Alvarez.

Eubank Jr would also be willing to call-out Caleb Plant, if he can record a historic victory over the Mexican to become undisputed champion.
