CENTRAL Ward councillor Chirs Doohan has been named Port Stephens' new deputy mayor.
Cr Doohan, who will serve in the position for a year, was elected 6-4 against incumbent and fellow Central Ward councillor Sarah Smith.
Cr Doohan was deputy mayor from 2015 to 2018.
He said it was a privilege and an honour to take the role on again.
"I'm excited to be back in this role and continuing to work together with my fellow Councillors to deliver all the things valued by the community across Port Stephens," he said.
Cr Smith said her tenure had been "a really valuable part of the learning curve that is serving as a councillor".
At Maitland, independent councillor Philip Penfold defeated Labor councillor Henry Meskauskas to take on the deputy role.
Cr Penfold will serve in the role until the 2020 council election.
