Chris Cuomo sacked by CNN for helping brother with sexual misconduct charges

Primetime anchorman Chris Cuomo has been fired by CNN for helping his brother - former New York governor Andrew Cuomo - in his fight against sexual misconduct charges.

Cuomo, 51, was initially suspended by the network on Tuesday after documents were collected in an investigation of Andrew Cuomo, who resigned from his post in August this year after an investigatory report alleged that he had sexually harassed 11 women during his time in office. He denies those allegations.

However, the network said "additional information" has since come forward which led to the decision to sack Cuomo.

Chris Cuomo said in a statement reported by the New York Times : "This is not how I want my time at CNN to end but I have already told you why and how I helped my brother.

"So let me now say as disappointing as this is, I could not be more proud of the team at Cuomo Prime Time and the work we did … I owe them all and will miss that group of special people who did really important work."
