Chris Conley talks about adapting into his new role with the Jags

Jacksonville Jaguars receiver Chris Conley signed with the team this March in search of more time on the field after spending multiple years in Kansas City — and that’s exactly what he’s getting. Of course, with that has come a transition, which is something the veteran admitted he’s still adjusting to via Jaguars.com.

“It’s a new situation,” Conley said. “I’ve got a new coach, new guys I’m in the huddle with, new/old quarterback, new environment, heat – all of that. I’m really just trying to adjust, find my place and make my mark.”

While that may sound like a lot for one to take in, coach Doug Marrone told the media that he likes where the veteran receiver is at the moment as he’s making great process by the day despite the pads not being on.

“I think Chris is getting better each day, kind of getting acclimated, which I think is normal in this type of period of time,” Marrone said early in OTAs. “As a coach, you don’t expect everyone to come in and be at 110 percent everywhere they have to be doing that. Their mind is open, they are ready to go to work and it’s a progression. I think where we are right now with Chris, the receivers, the team and the offense, is really good, but it’s a constant challenge each and every day to keep working on that.”

The local media has also been impress with Conley as they’ve praised him for the job he’s done as a deep threat in offseason training activities. After spending time with quarterback Nick Foles in Kansas City, Conley built a bond and connection with the veteran quarterback, and it’s showing up in Jags OTAs. In fact, the connection has been so strong that it appears it could get Conley a starting job by the time Week 1 rolls around.

Conley was somewhat buried under a very talented Kansas City receiving corps which featured Tyreek Hill and Sammy Watkins. Tight end Travis Kelce also was a big part of the production of the passing game, so needless to say, there weren’t a lot of balls thrown his way. Now, he’s on a team that isn’t nearly as established in terms of the passing game which should provide him with a lot of opportunities. That could especially be the case with John DeFilippo taking over as offensive coordinator and needing a speed threat like he had in Stefon Diggs while with the Minnesota Vikings.
