Chris Coleman's nightmare in China as furious fans unfurl banners demanding he go home

Chris Coleman is battling to save his job in the Far East after angry fans of struggling Hebei China Fortune turned on the former Wales manager demanding the club fire him.

Coleman has been having a nightmare time, with his side having just one win in nine Chinese Super League games this season to languish just one place off Beijing Renhe in bottom spot on goal difference.

In the wake of their 2-0 defeat to Shandong Luneng last week, who had former Manchester United star Marouane Fellaini in their ranks, Hebei issued an open letter to fans apologising and saying that it has been "the toughest start (to a season) in the club's history".

"We let you down and we can't make any excuses for the recent performances," said a statement.

"We have to say to you: sorry."

But it didn't improve things on the weekend as a Hebei team containing former Barcelona and Liverpool star Javier Mascherano lost 3-2 at home to mid-table Henan Jianye.

To make things worse for 48-year-old Coleman, Hebei had a player sent off  for the fourth time in all competitions this year.

Coleman, who left Wales for Sunderland in November 2017 and was sacked after taking them down to League One, is now under increasing pressure in China with sections of Hebei fans wanting him fired.

A section of disgruntled supporters held aloft a banner during Saturday's defeat that said in English: "Hello Mr. Coleman, please go home! You're fired!!!"

In Chinese it read: "Coleman, your mum wants you home for dinner."

Coleman succeeded West Ham boss Manuel Pellegrini at Hebei in June 2018, but has won only seven of his 28 games after making a decent start.
