Chris Coleman favourite for Sheffield Wednesday job with ex-Swansea City, Leeds United and Birmingham City boss Garry Monk in running

Former Wales manager Chris Coleman is the new favourite for the Sheffield Wednesday job.

Steve Bruce left Hillsborough earlier this week to succeed Rafa Benitez at Newcastle United.

Bruce had only been in the Owls hotseat for a matter of months, taking the reins at the Championship club back in January.

But the lure of managing his hometown club proved too strong, leaving Wednesday looking for a new boss.

And Coleman is now heavy favourite, with a dramatic change in the odds over the last 48 hours.

The Swansea-born boss left his role with Hebei China Fortune back in May, with fans of the Chinese club unfurling banners telling the 49-yea-old to "go home" after a poor run of results.

Coleman had spent nearly a year in the Far East after succeeding Manuel Pellegrini.

Also in the running for the position is former Swansea City, Leeds United and Birmingham City boss Garry Monk.

Monk and Birmingham parted ways in acrimonious circumstances last month, with the Blues installing former Swansea coach Pep Clotet as Monk's successor.

Odds courtesy of Sky Bet:

Chris Coleman - 11/10

Lee Bullen - 3

Gary Rowett - 8

Giovanni van Bronckhurst - 12

Chris Hughton - 12

Gianfranco Zola - 12

Garry Monk - 10

Nigel Pearson - 14

Tony Pulis - 8
