Chris Canty defends Giants QB Daniel Jones: He’s the franchise

Following the New York Giants’ dramatic victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 3, quarterback Daniel Jones has been hit with the typical rookie growing pains.

Jones has nine fumbles and eight interceptions in just seven starts. It’s not crazy for rookies to turn the ball over frequently as they adjust to the faster-paced NFL game.

Former Giant Chris Canty isn’t worried about Jones moving forward as the Giants’ starting quarterback.

“My man, Danny Dimes, is going to be all right!” Canty told TMZ Sports.

Canty, of course, was a member of the Super Bowl XLVI championship team and is now a host on ESPN Radio.

Given his 2-5 record since becoming the Giants starting quarterback, as well as the turnover struggles, many have jumped off the “Danny Dimes” bandwagon, but Canty isn’t one of them.

“I think he’s the next franchise quarterback for Big Blue,” Canty said.

The Giants’ record isn’t all Jones’ fault, of course. The team’s defense has left a lot to be desired, and the offensive line, which was expected to be much improved this year, has not played well either.

The Giants obviously believed in Jones when they took him sixth overall in this year’s draft. He has shown flashes of brilliance in his first seven games, while he continues to learn the game.
