Chris Cadden transfer fight as Columbus Crew close in on deal for Motherwell star

Columbus Crew are close to completing a deal for Chris Cadden.

However, Motherwell are geared up to battle them for compensation.

MLS officials have contacted the SFA to ask for the Scotland ace’s international transfer certificate on behalf of Crew in the last 24 hours.

Record Sport revealed on July 4 that Cadden was heading for the Ohio outfit and is likely to be loaned out to English League One side Oxford.

The first part of the deal is expected to be confirmed by Crew over the next 48 hours but there is set to be a bust-up over training compensation.

The 22-year-old is out of contract and his move Stateside means Well will only be due a fraction of the fee they would have got if he had signed for another club in Scotland.

The Steelmen feel they’ll still be eligible for compensation of around £250,000 as they see Crew as a Category Two team.

But the Columbus outfit claimed they were a Category Four club and wouldn’t have to pay any money, even though some of their top players are earning almost as much as the entire Motherwell starting XI.
