Chris Brown has appeared in a London court to deny charges over an alleged nightclub attack involving a bottle in February 2023.
The 36-year-old singer pleaded not guilty at Southwark Crown Court on Friday morning to attempting to cause grievous bodily harm with intent to Abraham Diaw at the Tape nightclub in Mayfair. His co-defendant, US national Omololu Akinlolu (also known as HoodyBaby), also denied the same charge.

Both men are further charged with assaulting Diaw and causing him actual bodily harm, and Brown is also accused of having an “offensive weapon”, aka a bottle, in a public place. They were not required to enter pleas to those additional charges at this stage.
The incident, described by prosecutors as an “unprovoked attack”, is alleged to have taken place on 19 February 2023 at the Tape club in Hanover Square, Mayfair. Brown and Akinlolu are said to have assaulted Diaw during the club’s Dirty Martini night event.

Brown arrived at the court to a crowd of photographers and walked in silence to the entrance. About 20 people, many of them fans, sat in the public gallery behind the dock, according to The Guardian. The singer entered his plea, saying: “Not guilty ma’am,” per Yahoo News.
A further court date has been set for 11 July, when both defendants may be asked to enter pleas to the additional charges. The trial itself is scheduled to begin on 26 October 2026 and is expected to last between five and seven days.
Brown was arrested last month at the Lowry hotel in Salford, Greater Manchester, after flying into the UK for his Breezy Bowl XX world tour. He was held in custody for nearly a week before being released on conditional bail, having agreed to pay a £5 million security fee to the court as a financial guarantee that he will return for further hearings.
Despite the legal proceedings, Brown has been able to continue his international tour, which celebrates the 20th anniversary of his debut album. He performed in Cardiff the night before his court appearance and is scheduled for two nights at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London this weekend, before heading to Manchester, Birmingham, and Glasgow, and then on to Ireland and other European cities.
The BBC reported that during a recent gig in Manchester, Brown thanked fans “for coming and supporting me”, and joked, “And thank you to the jail. It was really nice.”
His next court hearing will take place after the European leg of his tour wraps up.
