Chris Boswell passes first test for Steelers

No member of the Pittsburgh Steelers needs a strong preseason more than kicker Chris Boswell. His struggles last season had a lasting impact on the outcome of the season but the team stuck with him through it all in hopes he could turn it around in 2019.

And through one preseason game, their confidence has been well placed. Boswell shared kicking duties with Matthew Wright but Boswell never waivered.

After the game, Boswell talked about his performance and you have to appreciate the fact he sounds like a guy playing with more confidence than last season.  “I’m hitting the ball really well right now and I’ve just got to keep it up,” Boswell said.

Boswell went 3-for-3 on kicks on Friday including both field-goal tries and an extra point. Last season Boswell was 13-for-20 on field goals and 43-for-48 on extra points.

There are $2 million reasons why Boswell wants a strong preseason. Pittsburgh is holding onto Boswell’s bonus and he’s only going to get it if he makes it through camp and preseason on the roster. Boswell has hit his kicks in practice but seeing him doing it in game situations gives us a ton of confidence for him and the Steelers season.
